INTENTIONAL LIVING: STAY FOCUSED, MY SISTER
Do you have values? Do you have beliefs? Of course, you do. We all do, to some degree. But here’s a deeper question: Do you consciously practice living according to your values and beliefs? Like most people, you may find yourself shifting and wavering in the intensity to which you hold fast to your core self. Life has a way of distracting us, pulling our focus away from the things we hold dear. But when you recognize that you’ve drifted, it’s never too late to make a change. Decide to live with intention. You can do it.
Self-Examination
Become aware of who you are at this stage of your life. Slow down and take inventory of your true inner self. Life is a journey, and as we navigate its twists and turns, we evolve. We adapt to survive, to support others, to keep moving forward. As women of color, we often carry a mantle that demands strength, resilience, and sacrifice. We pour into others, sometimes until we are empty. Yes, we are survivors. Yes, we are strong. But let’s not forget—we are also human. We are beautifully imperfect beings. No matter how well we mask our inner struggles, they have a way of surfacing. And when they do, they can overwhelm us. Before you reach that breaking point, pause. Take a step back. Look deeply within yourself and listen to your heart. “To thine own self be true.” Rediscover what truly matters. Make the decision to value yourself. Take time to nurture your soul, care for your body, and love the magnificent, radiant person you are. When you live intentionally, you prioritize you. And in doing so, you become even better equipped to give to others without losing yourself.
Make Choices
Choose you. When life tries to mold you into someone who is not authentically you, resist the pressure. Change is inevitable, yes, but not all change is good or necessary. Don’t let life simply happen to you. Take control. Instead of always going with the flow, swim against the current when needed. Pause and reflect when life feels misaligned with your truth. Then, chart your course. Once your direction is clear, start moving—step by step, even if they are small ones. Being intentional in your choices means ensuring they reflect your desires, values, and dreams. Sometimes, it’s the small, seemingly insignificant decisions—what you wear, the books you read, how you start your day—that begin the process of transformation. Other times, it’s life-altering decisions—where you live, the relationships you nurture, the career paths you follow—that redefine your world. Whatever the magnitude of the choice, make sure it leads you closer to you.
Focus on Your Future
Keep your eyes forward. The past is behind you, unchangeable yet invaluable. It shaped you, strengthened you, taught you lessons. Honor your past, but don’t live there. Your present and future deserve your attention. Remember, your life has purpose. Every experience you’ve endured—good, bad, triumphant, or painful—is a thread in the beautiful tapestry of who you are. But your story doesn’t stop here. There are blank pages waiting to be written. Live fully in the present, but let your eyes stay fixed on the horizon. Build toward a future that reflects your dreams and honors the incredible person you are becoming.
Sister, Stay Focused
My Dear Sister, your life is a precious gift. Live intentionally. Reflect on who you are and who you want to be. Make choices that honor your truth. Embrace your future with open arms. The world needs your light, your wisdom, and your joy. But more than that, you deserve to live a life that feels authentic and fulfilling. Look toward tomorrow, and stay focused on the incredible woman you are.
Stay focused, my sister.
Live with intention, and let your brilliance shine.
